Stephen J. Bennett

Stephen (Steve) J. Bennett, graduated as a teacher from St. Mary's College of Education, Twickenham, England, a member college of the University of London Institute of Education, in 1969.

A keen interest in travel and other cultures began with a trip to Greece in the days before cheap holidays, and the expansion of the English language around the world. This was followed by long stays in Greece every summer until leaving England to accept a teaching position in Powell River in 1972.

Taking an active part in Powell River life in the ensuing years, Steve has taken on many responsibilities outside the field of teaching. His continued interest in other culture, and enjoyment of meeting new people led to CELTA training and joining the world of ESL.

"I really enjoy  meeting the wonderful young people who come to Powell River to learn my language. I often meet students outside school to practice English, and relax in an informal setting. I feel conversational practice is so important; I want to to help them reach their goal. They teach me so much about their lives, customs, and rich cultures."
